A sunny November day in the tricky Ashlett Creek, Southampton Water. A wonderful destination. Easier than you might think.

we we didn't film it last time but there
was a small challenge with the tender
article rights which care to share any
of that detail I fixed your engine that
come on is quite your engine back to my
workshop pull the carburetor apart which
is filthy and that word again coming up
there bill Phil
a boil I mean it's just a little bit
wrong mixture that was all it was
yeah anyway we're off to Ashland Creek
today slightly concerned because the
tidal calculations are a little bit
mission-critical
but we're hoping to get to a brand new
pub which would be pleased to share with
the Polish silent but not the jolly
sailor in the Campbell River jolly Savin
Ashley totally safe until he's able an
accident
he's moaning moaning moaning because got
to use his boat and the reason is I use
my boat oh we're good we could take you
see we're going to an area where this
could be an utter disaster right it
dries about two or three meters and
we've only got 4.6 meters are tied to
get in Eton get out before we've beached
folk to a midnight nearly December it's
like a beautiful summer's day
I am at a secret conversation with your
wife right the record and I do need to
tell me about it later on I need to
confess it is it who gets a point is no
points
but it's a confession from you not an
accusation on me confession is it's a
strong word but I feel like as it's your
wife I need to talk to you about the
conversation let's put it that way
let me just translate that that means he
needs a little bit of time to concoct
some accusation that's all that means
they were out here we're both it's so
warm in late November we both like
nothing jackets up yeah
you've got to say that is yeah people
don't say think twice about not sailing
in the winter we've got some of our
birthday this is stunning
so here's the plan we're gonna head
northeast round cow shots spit and up
into Southampton water
we're gonna stay tight to port about one
and a half miles after the fort will
nosed into this drying channel now we've
struggled to find the drying height of
the channel clearly from any charts or
websites we've tried calling the local
sailing club but there's no answer it
appears to dry anything from one and a
half meters to four meters
well we'll nudge our way along this
channel atop the tide until our nerves
give way the tide today is 4.6 meters in
Southampton water has a nice long double
stand so we'll have at least two hours
or more of high the worst case we shall
anchor out here somewhere and just take
the dinghy
currently house 4.6 meters of tie we're
approaching this first read on the first
green and we currently have 3.5 liters
of water 2.7 this is a second green boy
and we've now got one meter under the
keel or less we dry it one put we 1.9
we're in trouble
so this 2 6 so we're changing our from 2
green boys to green with ease
we've got 2.6 meters of water on 4.6
meters of tide so we're at the first
green with E and depth is back up to
three point seven meters so we had a bit
of a shallow at the second reorient we
you can see the sailing club and the pub
ahead of us yeah no depth alarm so we've
still got plenty here
that's a second green with you 3.5
meters up to the third green with E this
is 3.1 meters Standish a low that's
about as far as we want to go we're
going to head back out and anchor in
deeper water you can see the creek
clearly through there Connie

so I guess she seems lost green and red
and then this shop
is it is prom too
this is jolly sailor
we hope there's a decent stand in the
tide otherwise it could be a trouble in
an hour or two so the jolly sailor
Ashley Creek is run by the friendly mark
and Joe it's a hundred and sixty year
old smugglers in the food was home
cooked and simple but pretty tasty
certainly recommend this place it's a
great destination easy pilotage need a
high tide for most people particularly
wonderful in this summer
[Applause]
the question in Christmas if the guy
this caught everything put the answers
quite easy you just take the camera
around this boat just come with me
humor me so there they're like metallic
rods covered in algae follow me round I
suggested that on the Christmas list we
measure the various bits of or even that
so that's my suggestion for your
Christmas list we've got it sorted make
it a jolly sailor that was good seemed
homemade and yeah you had a really good
chunky Berg
oh by the way the wish we got some local
advice the fisherman said that we should
have persisted he reckons we'll have got
down there with the tide all the way to
where this guaranteed to be better and
we will
I shall place it to the jernard we could
go don't you think
